Playing is directly interwoven with the human existence. It constitutes an internal need, a psychosomatic momentum of the body, which plays an important role in the physical, mental and social development of the individuals-children. As a process, it activates their personality from every aspect, it organizes and accompanies it in its course towards maturity, preserving simultaneously all the properties of a tool of learning. For this reason, it is proposed that playing should be used in the learning-teaching process. This paper endeavors a literature review on the topic of playing during the educational process and, more specifically, it focuses on the role of playing as an educational tool and its effect on the learning process. The research records mixed findings about its learning efficiency compared to other methods, with most surveys showing that using games are more efficient.
